The college was upgraded to a university in 1946 and renamed as Goryeo University, with Xuan Xiangyun serving as the first president. Goryeo University has established a new academic structure, consisting of the School of Political Science and Law (Department of Political Science and Law), the School of Economics and Business (Department of Economics and Business), and the School of Literature (Department of Korean Literature, Department of British Literature, Department of Philosophy, and Department of History). In 1951, during the Korean War, the school opened courses on a temporary campus in Daegu. In 1952, the School of Literature was expanded to the School of Arts and Sciences, with the addition of the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Physics; Chemistry and Biology major. And a new Agriculture and Forestry College was established, including the existing Agriculture Department and the new Forestry Department. As a result, the school has a total of 4 colleges and 13 departments. In 1955, the size of the school was further expanded, and the Department of Law and the newly established Department of Public Administration merged to form the Law School, replacing the School of Political Science and Law. The Ministry of Commerce and the newly established Department of Commerce merged to form a business school, replacing the School of Economics and Business. Establish a Political Science and Economics Teaching and Research Office under the School of Arts and Sciences, and merge it into the Political Science Department of the former School of Political Science and Law and the Economics Department under the former School of Economics. In 1963, the Institute of Public Affairs was established. In 1964, the construction of the Agricultural College Experimental Farm began in Gyeonggi Province, and at the same time, the Zhongyandong Farm also began to relocate. In the same year, the College of Arts and Sciences was divided into the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Science and Technology. The College of Science and Technology has been reorganized into the Department of Science and Engineering, which includes the Department of Chemical Engineering, and two new departments have been established: the Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Building Engineering. In 1967, Goryeo University was granted permission to establish a Graduate School of Education.

The Goryeo University Foundation acquired Woosuk University in 1971, thereby merging its medical school and affiliated hospitals. In 1980, the Shizong Campus was built in Xichangli, Yanji County, Chungcheongnam do (now known as Shizong Special Autonomous City). Afterwards, in the 1990s, a green campus was built, and the medical school and auxiliary hospitals were relocated from Huihua Cave to Annan Cave. At the same time, the school has established a South Korean technology complex for the first time to achieve collaborative research among commercial, research institutions, and universities. In addition, Goryeo University has established the School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology to cultivate professionals in the field of biological sciences, and has opened the Seoul Center of the Korean Institute of Basic Sciences equipped with cutting-edge research equipment, as well as the International Research Department to cultivate international and local research professionals.
