Of the 14 departments, 13 are concentrated in the university city: the Department of Architecture, the Department of Natural Sciences, the Department of Political and Social Sciences, the Department of Accounting and Management, the Department of Law, the Department of Economics, the Department of Philosophy and Letters, the Department of Engineering, the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry, the Department of Dentistry, the Department of Psychology, and the Department of Chemistry.

Interdisciplinary Department

Established in 1973, this department now includes five professional schools of study. The Guatitlán School of Professional Studies, also known as the School of Advanced Professional Studies, offers nine undergraduate programs, three professional degree programs, five university teaching programs, and one doctoral program.

School of Plastic Arts

Its predecessor was the National School of Fine Arts, named in 1867. In 1929, it was divided into the National School of Architecture and the National School of Plastic Arts. The college offers three undergraduate majors, three professional degree programs, and one undergraduate teaching major. In addition, the college boasts two galleries and a concert hall (capacity 430).

School of Music

Founded in 1929, the college offers six technical programs and six undergraduate programs, with a student enrollment of 165.

School of Nursing and Midwifery

Its predecessor was the School of Nursing, established in 1907. It was incorporated into the Department of Medicine in 1911 and became an independent college in 1948, adopting its current name.

School of Social Work

In April 1940, at the initiative of a group of lawyers and doctors, the then Department of Law and Social Sciences established a new technical major, Social Work. Shortly thereafter, it began enrolling undergraduate students.

College of Arts and Sciences

Located in the university town, the college comprises five secondary and higher vocational schools and a graduate academic department. The main mission of the Graduate Academic Division is to collaborate with relevant academic institutions such as research institutes and research centers to train undergraduates, professional degree students, university teaching staff, and doctoral students. It offers one undergraduate program, five professional degree programs, 11 university teaching staff programs, and seven doctoral programs.

Preparatory School Commission

On December 2, 1867, a preparatory school was founded by decree of Emperor Maximiliano de Absburgo. Initially, it served primarily native white students. In 1910, President Porfirio Díaz decreed that the preparatory school be incorporated into the then Royal Pontifical University of Mexico. The Commission operates nine national preparatory schools in the Federal District, all with a three-year program.

Correspondence Education Department

The University of Mexico’s correspondence education system offers 17 programs: Economics, Management and Accounting, Journalism, Communications, Social Sciences and Public Administration, Dentistry, Nursing, Law, Philosophy, History, Geography, Spanish Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, Education, Psychology, Sociology, and International Relations.
